About a third of the original GIFs we've posted on our blog seem to have become unviewable sometime in the past couple of months. They sometimes display briefly before disappearing. When I first noticed a few older GIFs doing this I thought it was a server/loading issue, but when I realized how systematic it is I started suspecting that the GIFs themselves have been corrupted. The issue affects every GIF posted January through June of 2021 but none posted before or since. Images are not affected. I've looked at some other archives and seen similar issues during that period in a few. I've managed to download some of ours by opening them in a separate tab, but what I get is invariably partial GIFs, seemingly just the first three seconds, always 4 mb file size.
I know this sort of thing has happened on the site before, but I can't find anything on these boards to indicate whether it has ever been repaired. I'd appreciate any advice on how to figure out whether it's a loading issue or damage to the the GIFs themselves. If damaged I wouldn't be able to reconstitute those six months of our blog since I can't insert the originals into existing posts. Does admin have the ability to repair them? (I've had no response yet to the ticket I put in.)
There are plenty of problems with this site and I've tried to be patient about them, but this one is going to kill it for us. What is the point of building a blog full of personal content if huge chunks are going to be randomly obliterated?
