AD REDIRECT HORROR
From time to time, I check out whether bdsmlr is still functional.
No developments seem to have taken place, but at least the site appears to be reasonably stable at this time. There's even been an official announcement. No - not about progress in terms of fixing shit, just "We are banning image hotlinking". Still, it proves some kind of activity is going on behind the scenes, even if, instead of doing something positive for the users, it's simply protecting their financial situation - which is legit of course, but in the context it sounds like the people whose clicks generate income continue to be totally ignored.
What they most definitely are not doing anything about is the fact that we continue to be bombarded by the worst possible kind of ads. Other sites have advertising, and as it's a source of income, that's fine. But these sites tend to be reasonably discreet about the nature and placement of their ads.
Not so bdsmlr. Just now: Five clicks - three redirects. Full page blasts, tabs get hijacked, new ones opened. I use two adblockers hoping (in vain) to escape this kind of aggressive shit. I don't do that for reblogme or NewTumbl but their ads are not murderously intrusive. Reblogme staff recently posted and promised never to resort to these kind of practices. bdsmlr, on the other hand? What technically may still be described as "bdsmlr management" seems not to give a fuck about this outrageous state of affairs.
I've taken to opening the site in virtual machines only. If trojans or whatever sneak in via these ads, it won't affect my host system. So (after three months of determined silence) "management" tell us they are banning this or that - but what most of us probably would like to hear is that they're clamping down on forms of advertising which turn the site into something you visit at your own risk, never knowing whether you might end up catching malware, trojans or whatever. Some people here have reported their virus protection does not even let them open bdsmlr. And "management" refuse to address this problem, or even just reply to any number of complaints which have been sent, and ignored.
This is disgraceful, inexcusable and brutally reckless.
