Full Page Ads

They make sure this site continues to be a disaster zone. Despite what they keep telling us about "talking to their advertisers" and so on, some ads continue to do the most disgusting things.

Do any of the guys "running" bdsmlr even ever try their site? Okay, so here's the sequence: 1 - Log in. See your dashboard. Start scrolling. Fine. Then, try to like or reblog an image? No way, unless first you let this full page ad a) open whether you want to or not, b) replace your feed, c) trigger your feed being restarted in a new tab), d) mess up your position in the feed.

So these ads are not only ruthlessly invasive. They also force your feed to reopen in a new tab? No kidding? Does that mean they control your browser, at any rate while their own needs are being satisfied? Disgusting.

And then there's the feed itself. Their flawed programming makes it necessary to disable page  by page so that we may actually see new posts, as opposed to only ones that have been floating around forever. AND THEN THEY FORCE US TO LOSE OUR POSITION IN THE FEED so we are returned to the top of the feed?

I should add that - in order to avoid most of the intrusive, brash and omnipresent ads -  I'm using an adblocker. No, not ublockOrigin. That one still removes the login box so it needs to be turned off if you actually want to sign in - a fuckup, by the way, they promised to fix months ago. I'm not against ads, since - especially for underfunded operations - they are an indispensible means to generate income. I wouldn't therefore use a blocker on a site like this one if ads were displayed sensibly, sort of respectfully and in such a way as not to fuck about too much with the site itself, let alone with my browser. But really, guys - this is ridiculous. And more so in view of the fact that you keep telling us that side of things has been cleaned up!

I see they're hiring people who actually know about website coding etc. Let's hope that move bears rich fruit very quickly. A steady stream of users have been abandoning bdslmr.  At this rate, I suspect the site won't even generate enough income to pay one decent engineer.

    yes I also feel is very annoying that the feed opens in new tab and old tab loads into an ad :/ it doesn't happen to me if i like or reblog, only most times when i change page. I think disabling infinite scrolling is useful to not lose place in feed

    Rosa Isabel Lopez Gomez - Yes, I agree, disabling infinite scrolling is very useful. I'd love to activate it again, but if I do that, I can see neither my own posts in the feed nor fresh ones from anybody else. Only the stuff that's already been in the feed for ages is displayed.

    I've found the ads open up a new tab first after logging in.. then after the first reblog and then they seem to bugger off.. still irritating as hell though having to close em.

    The full page ad actually returns once in a while if, for example, you don't constantly scroll along, reblog or comment at a quick pace. You might go make yourself a cup of coffee, and when after ten minutes you come back and click on something - there you get the ad grinning at you again in a disrespectful sort  of way.

    In my original post  on this topic, I said that uBlockOrigin prevented the log in box being displayed. This now seems to have fixed, but uBlock too cannot prevent some of the more appalling intrusions by advertisers. At least, page-by-page now seems no longer to cut out new, original posts, so when the tab hijacker kicks in, losing your place in the feed is much less damaging. Oddly enough, when that new tab pops up, it says something like "no ads available". Whatever ...
