As much as I agree regarding the lack of improvement of the site, the reason the ads seem to be the only thing that work is that its not hosted by bdsmlr or their team, the ad functionality will be provided by an external provider. hence outside of bdsmlr's control

I haven't seen any ad so far during the login screen?

Once you're logged in, you can have an ad, but never before, unless I missed something?

Hypnofrance:  It just started today.  Maybe it just hasn't hit where you are, yet.

No shame ? You do realise they are a small team working on a website which is supposed to replace Tumblr ?

Putting two ads on the front page won't change anything for you. Besides, those ads aren't disturbing.

In my opinion, if that can help them and encourage them to keep working on the website, then i'm ok with it.

Ads are popping up all the time once I'm logged in.  There is no need to have them on the login page.  Not a very good message to be sending out to potential new people, deciding whether or not to get an account.

Sorry, there DEly, but seeing ads of women with there tits hanging out is offensive to me!  You can be ok with it, if you want.  I'm not!

Johnny Angel, i understand your point. Everyone has his own opinion on ads, but to say it is a "shame" for a free website to run ads, it is a little bit unfair for them.

And when people come to a website that starts with BDSM, i think they are ready to see some nudity.

And for the ads that pop up once you're logged, aren't they optional ? there is a parameter in your account settings that allows you to enable/disable them. You'll still see some ads though.

DEly.  Of course they run ads!  I didn't say they shouldn't.  Just not on the logon/sign up page.  The popup ads are not optional, and yes, I do have them disabled, for all the good it does.

I've noticed an uptick of ads on other sites I frequent.  But the option is there to either click on them or not.  They don't popup every time a link is clicked.

Click the lightening bolt, an ad pops up.  Go to someones archive, an ad pops up.  An ad pops up when I try to logoff!

    That is called overkill.

People have been going to New Tumbl because nothing is being done.  Chat has been broken for months.  Oh, excuse me, they did some work on it.  Send a message, and it may or may not be received.  And the chat box takes forever to load,  This has been going on for months.  Links are broken, pics don't show, videos may or may not play.  Take a scroll through the forum, and you will see the many things that have not been fixed for months.

People here are patient, and have been patient for a long time.  Not getting updates, and nothing, or hardly anything being done, is why people are leaving.

There used to be regular updates from the staff.  Now, were lucky to get an update at all.

    They've brought this on themselves.

This ad stuff - well they need to generate income, and ads - basic , artless and ugly as they are here - are one way of doing that. Devs are rather good at keeping them functioning, it seems - and while that's par for the course, it's also where I get angry.

Look at the list of problems Johnny Angel above provides. I could add a few little things (for example, for ages I've not been receiving email notifications of new followers); but let's stay with the major fuck-ups. Among those, I think most are agreed that chat sticks out. A site like bdsmlr without a functioning chat system is a very difficult proposition.

And while a good deal of energy appears to be spent on making sure the ads work (and are increasingly visible, and harder to avoid), as Johnny Angel says, chat has not been working for months. In fact, since their recent "improvements", half the time I cannot even send a message since hitting ENTER makes no difference, and the little icon to click often fails to show. I'm not saying that if could dispatch a message, it would be delivered and displayed, because we know that's not been happening for months. Just seems weird they speak of improvements when things are even worse than before,. (And trying to message someone directly from their blog isn't working either, at least not for me. I click "I am not a robot" - no verification set of images pops up, by the way - and then that's it.Nothing happens. Nada.)

So I wish they'd spend even just half as much energy on fixing vital stuff like this as they seem to be on making sure the ads work. I have noticed of late my feed, once more than I could easily get through, has been thinning out dramatically, and more and more people leaving. It's not surprising, is it? And what good are ads if fewer and fewer people stick around to see, and get annoyed, by them?

ravenflight - I was on chat tonight and, low and behold, I was not only able to get the chat box to load, I was actually able to chat with someone.  We chatted for maybe an hour.  AND, I actually got a notification in my email that I had a chat message.  So that's a good thing.  The question is:  How long will it last?

Johnny Angel - I've heard that at times, chat works when both parties are online at the same time, which obviously must have been the case when you were able to communicate. When the person you wish to contact is offline, though, it doesn't seem to work. I'll try it out again later - itbh, I'd be stunned to find they'd actually fixed this.

Youdagame11911 - Thanks for that info, I hadn't considered that ad hosting is external. Maybe we should allow other vital functions to be hosted by someone other than the bdsmlr team then :-)

I haven't tried chat today, so I have no idea if it's still working or not.

    Youdagame11911 - LOL,  That's not a bad idea!

It actually worked for me today. It was slow, sometimes it took a number of refresh actions for chat to load, but I found I was able to send offline messages and communicate! Let's see whether this will be permanent or be a brief interlude before it goes off again.
