Looking for BDSMLR alternatives.

I would gladly hang around for things to get fixed, but support is ignoring all issues.
Hell I'd be happy with a, " We know we fucked up, but we are going to fix it" response.

I see, I also keep trying to come back once a week to see if things change but sometimes it just gets worse.

I moved to newtumbl on february, now I already managed to get 3k followers there I had 5k on bdsmlr, I think most of them were my followers here, it's a pretty fair alternative, and possibly the only half decent.

It's a shame they aren't fixing bdsmlr in proper time.

It is going on for six months since this site crashed and whilst minimal functionality has been restored since, it is just that, minimal.

One of the reasons I used this site was the ability to set up a random "queue" of posts and select who I saw on the dashboard as well as various other functions which suited my inability to be here that much. Almost all those functions have been gone since February and there is no sign of them returning. From what I have seen the problems just keep coming which is in stark contrast to communications which are a joke.

I decided after much thought to rescue what I could from here and set up on newTumbl instead of abandoning posting altogether.

As a site there are a few things that I would like to see on newTumbl, such as the ability to bulk post to queue, but that aside, the site works perfectly well and has almost none of the frustrations I have encountered here. I see lots of familiar posters there now so it seems people are voting with their feet and leaving BDSMLR. I don't blame them.

As to the "well it's free" argument, other sites are free but don't crash on a regular basis and have respect for the people who provide the content for the site, unlike here. What is the point of a free site that does not work? It's like getting free groceries you cannot use.

My posts have numbered well over 30,000 of which almost 50% have been lost, my followers number 16,400 + and it is for them alone I am posting on newTumbl, why should they miss out because this site is so appalling.

As soon as the salvage operation is finished I shall be gone permanently. I have no wish to be associated with the morons running this site. The frontpage/dashboard has not been fixed since the Feb. 2nd announcement, the promised blog has never materialised and the github page has not been updated since 5th May.

They are oblivious to anything posted here and the only one who seems to defend the current site operators is Jennie on an occasional basis. She may mean well but it does not solve a thing.

If others are happy to go down with the sinking ship, fine that is their choice but there are plenty of life rafts and the best one I have found is newTumbl so far.

I wish everyone well but if you are waiting for the site to be fixed, please don't hold your breath.

    Regards

Just a short note on newtumbl: Either I am too stupid, or that site has no functionality. The thing that is called "dashboard" on bdsmlr does not exist on newtumbl, and I do not want to see a choice of what newtumbl thinks is good on my start page. There are no mass uploads - which I use occasionally on bdsmlr - and it seems there are very few people who post stuff I find worthy to save. But I have to rate every picture I upload although my blog is rated X, anyway :(
Could it be that the nonexisting bdsmlr team are also running newtumbl, and want to move their bdsmlr "customers" over there?

Felm Cyber - Well there is functionality on newtubl,in fact, there's plenty of it -  except it's unbelievably cumbersome, and some of it seems very difficult to work out. For example, if you want to block someone, this is easily done on bdsmlr (and on tumblr), whereas on newtumbl I had to spend ample time figuring out what the hell to do, and I'm still not sure. It even took me a while to discover how I can view my own blog.

Plus I find the rating thing to be totally absurd. And if you leave the feed on standard settings, it saps resources like crazy and, in no time, has slowed down your system to a crawl. Also, the stuff that turns up on my dash isn't the kind of stuff I marked in my preferences, so I haven't a clue where it's all coming from. Mind you, I'm sure the bdsmlr crew aren't running new tumblr because while that site is somewhat weird, from what I can gather, it's actually working :-)

You can adjust the settings of the dashboard on newtumbl, I just can't guide because it was some workaround and I've done it months ago so I don't remember, you also have the option of just seeing the blogs you follow (which wouldn't be very different from bdsmlr).

From what I remember it was something about those settings you mark of "fetish" "sexuality" etc etc and the hashtags, probably not somewhere far from where you adjust the comfort level.

I remember I had some bdsm things marked and I ended up receiving straight bdsm sex on my page which I didn't want to, but managed to fix it.

I kind of like the rating, because not seeing "w" content (which include scat) feels much better than the surprise nausea I used to get on bdsmlr.

The layout on newTumbl is different to BDSMLR and it takes a little getting used to. But with the exception of "queue" which takes more time as you have to post each one individually, there is plenty of functionality. I can select what I see, which blogs I see, follow or block/hide blogs easily, the chat and message system work and although slower to load to, queue works just fine.

I had to take a while to figure out BDSMLR when I first started using it. It did not have a mass or random queue option when I started. I had no idea how to block, the layout seemed strange because I did not know how to change things. I took some time and learnt how to do it all. I am doing the same with newTumbl and personally, I am happy to be on a site that works.

There was a time when BDSMLR was a good place to be, that was then, this is now. Now I much prefer a site that functions to one that does not and newTumbl functions. Like everything new, you have to give it a little time and patience and then everything falls into place.

    Regards and good luck :)

I know everyone here is talking about newTumbl, so I decided to try that out.  So far I am liking it, and am thinking about moving there.  However a few popular blogs that I follow are going back to tumblr.  One of the big advantages of tumblr is their user base, which is still huge from what I understand.  That's one reason that is making me hesitate about moving to newTumbl.  Their userbase is "not that big".  They have around 500 000 reported users compared to the many millions that exist on tumblr.  So that leaves me wondering.  Is tumblr safe for NSFW blogs again?  Does anyone have any info on what Tumblr is like now compared to options like newTumbl?  As much as I hate it, the upside of having a large userbase on Tumblr is hard to ignore.

Ocean - Is tumblr "safe for NSFW blogs again"? Definitely not. A few days ago, I had my blog there banned out of the blue for not complying with their guidelines on "pornographic" content. I had not myself posted a single new NSFW image; however, I had been re-blogging NSFW content which continues to circulate freely and, it seems, unchallenged by what I take to be mendacious opportunists that run tumblr.

However, I had asked for some technical support. Shouldn't have done that! Rather than dealing with my issue, they simply told me the blog had been nuked. Seems what they do is, they demand that members refrain from blogging "offensive" material (remember that now legendary phrase "female-presenting nipples"?), while permitting tons and absolute tons of porn to remain on their servers, ready to be reblogged until the cows come home. And everyone of course continues to reblog that stuff.

One may get away with that for a while. I did, though I didn't maintain my blog too eagerly. The one thing not to do, it seems, is draw their attention to your blog. In that case they may come down on you like a ton of bricks. It's easier, I guess, just to kill off blogs which have been running for years, rather than clean up your servers so as to comply with your own guidelines.

So I'm not sure tumblr is a sound alternative. Mind you, I'm still finding new tumbl a completely baffling experience. The beauty of BDSMLR used to be that's it was straight-forward, easy to handle, and more or less did what it set out to do. Nothing fancy, but enough to give you a sense of home. The fact that it's been turned into a train wreck is  upsetting...

On the subject of new tumbl though, I saw that both Ariella Haverguess and bralphamaster above posted some rather upbeat assessments of that site - so I'll continue to try and work out how it all functions. I have (because it's comfortable I suspect) a tendency sometimes to blame my own inability to work out the simplest procedures on the people who invented these procedures :-)
