Latest Twist - Image Upload Fucked

    THE FOLLOWING DAY:

Others are affected by  this latest bug. From the people who allegedly manage this site not a word. Their github page was last updated (i.e. had some more or less meaningless drivel added to it) on May 5th (!), the info box on the dashboard has been dormant for nearly four months.

They don't even bother, it seems, to read what people write on here. Or if they do, they prefer not to respond, comment or otherwise get involved. Guys, bdsmlr used to be a great place to be. Are you deliberately trying to run it down? For fuck's sake - at least TALK TO US!

    AND THEN:

I was able to actually post stuff! It seems that this thing at least has been resolved, and after having criticized the devs for inactivity and so on, I'll now thank them for obviously having sorted something  out in an active sort of way.

Still think you guys ought to talk to us on a regular basis!

same issue here...  can't upload ANYTHING!

I submitted a request on this and earlier today, stupidly marked it SOLVED because it seemed to have been fixed. But now, we're back to uploads NOT working. Like da chief above reports, can't upload a single image regardless of type and size.

And chat, by the way, has now taken to simply not sending any message one posts. Instead, whatever one writes and sends simply disappears. Is anybody doing any meaningful, substantial work at all on this once fabulous site?

It does seem as though the new owners are focused on a different product. Why did they take a perfectly good site and ruin it? Seems as though this happens frequently with sites involved in sharing gay erotica. Am I being paranoid or what? Shame on this site and it's lack of caring.

Italtopcop - Not sure you're being paranoid, though probably it may not be that it's a gay site but that they inherited a design mess they can't seem to clear up, maybe for lack of manpower, likely through lack of expertise. Who knows what motivates them!

But whatever it is, they are presiding over the decline of a once vibrant site. Numbers of people have left already, and to be honest, currently I can see little in the way of making anyone want to stay. "Management" steadfastly refuses to communicate, plus from what I've read elsewhere, tickets are not being dealt with in a timely or professional manner by what they call "support" - sure doesn't inspire confidence, does it ...

On my side, I can't upload ANYTHING. Neither from PC nor from mobile.

I strongly doubt that the gay component has any relevance to the site's problems. There's a shitload of straight content there, and I assume that's affected too.

I experienced this too, but I half think this happens for brief periods when they are backing changes to the back end of the site. Posting is working again now. I still wish they would actually communicate with people... it's ridiculous.

Teas & Denial - Nope, posting not working here... And I agree - wouldn't it be nice if they actually TALKED to us about these constant fuck ups?

I can't upload anything either, been broken since yesterday. Text posts and reblogs still work. I'm seeing very few non-reblog posts in my feed, which might all have been queued earlier so it seems like it's broken for everybody. With this error message, I wonder if they might have just run out of space on the cdn012 image server? Can't upload a video either though, which I think were stored on cdn07--getting a "500 internal server error".

This is too bad because it doesn't seem like there are really any good alternatives... newtumbl is much much smaller, ranks about 60,000th in global internet traffic on Alexa vs. 15,000th for bdsmlr.

I would pay a subscription for a working version of this site.

It would have a robust chat area, blocking that actually blocks, auto-blocking of the unidentified... And would enable me to upload images. You know, like a NORMAL SOCIAL MEDIA SITE.

Ravenflight thank you for your intelligent and spot on comments. You are absolutely correct. It is a wonder that anyone is still here.

John Blank  Oh how I would like to know that you are right. I suppose when you live as long as I have you become a bit cynical when things like this happen over and over again. This is the third site that I have seen go off the rails. Either these sites are being run by folks who don't have a clue how to run a good site or they don't have the interest to get it right. For a long time now it has been one huge problem after the other. How can other sites run so smoothly and well when these bozos can't seem to get their shit together. Very discouraging and quite frankly I often wonder why I stay. I have met a lot of nice friends on here and made a lot of great contacts so I hesitate to abandon it. Unfortunately they are leaving most of us no choice.

Italtopcop - Yes, many of us, as you say, may still "hesitate to abandon" bdsmlr. It used to be a place where, with some impunity, you were free to explore, experiment, discover, and maybe even grow. What is easily forgotten, I believe, is that "sexual deviance" (i.e. anything recognizably beyond the missionary position with the lights off) is just a metaphor for "stuff going on inside which one isn't quite sure of, aware of, familiar with". Only repressed and scared people will hide from that obscure, maybe somewhat scary content of the psyche. A lot of us get into it and play around and find out really interesting things about ourselves, don't we? And I daresay it helps us become if not better, then certainly more self-aware people. Which can't be bad in a world largely run by greedy psychopaths and mass murderers.

Tumblr used to be good for that before it became braindead. So bdsmlr largely took over in providing safe spaces for the exploration of all this stuff.  Not everything was working flawlessly all the time, but who would expect that? It was working well enough, and seemed to be run with a degree of dedication, for more and more people to set up tent and make the site their home. The most striking aspect of management's failure since the beginning of the year -  for me at least - is a sense of abandoned responsibility, betrayal of trust, and of leaving people looking like idiots.

"These bozos", you suggest, "can't seem to get their shit together." I agree and would add that these bozos may well not have understood the nature of the site they are running into the ground. There's nothing wrong with capitulating before a task one isn't up to. What's deplorable is not communicating, treating the members with utter disrespect, and causing a lot of them a lot of - should we call it heartache, or are the organs involved further south?

Okay, I'm rambling - but I'm on record as having defended devs for a very long time, pleading for patience and so on. I guess I am angry with myself for being blue-eyed, and need to let off steam because I'm thoroughly pissed off.

I too have defended them for quite a while, and I too am getting angry. (I might be the only person on here who has defended them more than you.)

If they know services are going to go down, I think we all could accept that IF there was an announcement, a tweet, an update to the github page -- anything to indicate that it was planned maintenance and not a total boondoggle.

Jennie - Indeed you've been incredibly constructive in your communication on here, and that just makes the behavior of those "running" the site look the more disgraceful.

Here we have members like you trying to give advice and assistance - I see you even post tutorials - and offering explanations for what may be going on behind the scene, while bdsmlr staff continue to refuse to talk to us meaningfully. Do they even read what people write on here? I'm tempted to say I hope they don't, because if they do and ignore it, then extra shame on them!

You gave me a chance to vent my anger, Italtopcop - for that I owe you a thank you :-)

Picture upload appears to be working again. Let's see for how long this time ...

A LITTLE LATER: Well it lasted about three hours. As of now, until further notice, all image upload privileges have once more been withdrawn. I'm running out of ideas as to what these people might be doing.

and there are no instructions forthcoming. I don't expect to ever get a reasonable response back.

I have had a ticket open on this for two days, no response. Calling their "support" SUPPORT is like calling a wheelbarrow without wheels a racing car.
