When I tried to include links, it put my post under "pending approval". Based on the state of things here right now, I don't expect that to ever get approved.

Anyway, my NewTumbl blogs are the same as they are here - SensateSleep (romantic posts) and DarkerSleep (hardcore posts).

I will be sure to add anyone who posts in this thread. 💙

Is New Tumblr really the place to go?  Keep in mind, that Tumblr is the one who fucked us over to begin with.  It was the mass migration to BDSMLR, with the loss of thousands of users, that made them re-think themselves and offer New Tumblr.  I opened an account there, took a look around, (it seemed to be exactly like old Tumblr), and immediately closed the account.  Just saying.

@Johnny Angel ...what? NewTumbl has absolutely nothing to do with Tumblr. It's a completely separate, independent site, just like BDSLMR.

SensateSleep.  Not from what I saw.  It was the same setup as Tumblr.  Just saying.  Do what you will.  Free choice.  And don't be fooled that NewTumbl has nothing to do with Tumblr.  Same owners.

Absolutely none of this is true. NewTumbl is a completely independent site doing its own thing. They don't share the same owners as Tumblr, and I have no idea where you're getting the idea that they are from.

You're either lying to stir up negativity or severely misinformed.

Think what you will.  Don't come crying to me when you're not able to post what you want, like nudes.

Johnny Angel -  SensateSleep above speculates that "you're either lying to stir up negativity or severely misinformed". That seems a valid observation. NewTumbl (yes, it is called newTumbl, one word without the r at the end, not, as you call it, "New Tumblr") is not owned by the same people who regrettably are running tumblr.

And whatever one may think of them (personally, I'm warming to them while remaining skeptical), they have a rather different setup from tumblr; different features (confusingly complex, if you ask me), different, rather resource-sapping way of displaying stuff, and so on.

Your response to criticism of your statements has been:  "Think what you will. Don't come crying to me when you're not able to post what you want, like nudes. Just saying." I have an account there, and am finding that as long as you don't ignore certain legal requirements (not dissimilar, from what I can tell, to the ones which apply on bdsmlr), you can post whatever the hell you want. And trust me, nude ain't a problem!

You say you "opened an account there, took a look around, (it seemed to be exactly like old Tumblr), and immediately closed the account". Maybe you should have looked a little more thoroughly before pouring out negative propaganda which seems to have no basis in fact?

    Just saying.

Different owners?  Why same name?  Oh, excuse me, it's New?  Sorry Charlie.  This boy ain't buying.  Y'all can do what ya want.  I wouldn't touch that site with your dick, or anyone else's.  If it's so great over there, why are y'all here trying to get everyone over there?  Why not just go there and leave us alone over here.  Is this site fucked?  Better believe it.  Like I said, what I saw was the same as it was before.  Have fun y'all!

It's amazing how stubbornly willing someone is to remain attached to their own ignorance rather than admit they were factually wrong about something.

Your defensiveness is baffling. You are objectively, certifiably wrong. It wasn't created by Tumblr. You're free not to like it, but the things you stated have no basis in fact - they are an independent site. Throwing around insults at people for pointing our your mistake makes you look like a petulant child.

newtumbr isn't anything like tumblr regardless of what Johnny Angel says.  It is definitely not the same.  But, it is also much more convoluted than this place is.  I've tried it and can't figure out what it is they want from me to be able to see everyone's blog and to reblog pictures.

But wait, I just logged into it again and it looks different than I remember.  Still more confusing than this site though.  But if this site just keeps failing, than I guess I'll head over there and figure it out.

Mastrsteven - I agree - newtumbl is "more convoluted" than bdsmlr (though to be fair, in contrast to bdsmlr, newtumbl does seem to work).

It took me quite a while to figure out how to use the site. It's got more features than bdsmlr (whose functions, of course, are mostly unavailable these days), but some of that extra stuff still makes next to no sense to me, is comparatively  difficult to find, or just confuses the hell out of me. You are asked to take an endless introductory course, for example, on how to use the site, whereas here you just open an account, and after a few clicks, you can start using it. Well, not at the moment of course. But that used to be the idea until the beginning of this year.

Another weird thing on newtumbl is the feed page. This - you find after some research - may be adjusted in terms of how images are displayed (how many columns etc), but whatever setting you choose, my experience has been that it saps RAM and, after a while, responds more and more slowly.

One major problem I've found is that while they have a feature allowing you to block blogs, that appears to be dysfunctional. So after you finally worked out how the fuck to use it, you discover that it makes not the blindest bit of difference since blocked blogs can continue to interact with you just as they did before.

They have a working (!) chat thing, though you do not get automatic notification of new messages so you need to open the chat page in a second tab and check regularly for fresh contributions - rather cumbersome and not very useful.

Then, there is the "ratings system". They offer a number of levels - five, I believe - ranging from totally safe to wildly NSFW, and everything you post must be assigned the category into which you believe it fits. Get it wrong, and a member of their "image police" will likely send you a message telling you you violated the rules, and would you please not. When I first tried out newtumbl, that happened to me right away a number of times, so I thought I didn't need a nanny, and closed the account. This time, I simply registered my blog for the toughest NSFW category, and I assign that rating to whatever I post. As a result, I've not had a single problem.

Which brings me to my last point. While newtumbl to me seems to be overly complicated, and weirdly lacks any sense of community which we (used to) have here, it does work. No crashes, no server failures, no problems uploading stuff so far. And if all you want is porn, it has enough of that.

I would vastly prefer bdsmlr to get their act together instead of "tumbling" from one fuck up to the next - but at least, there is a working alternative. Not (in my view) anything like as attractive as this site, but not as incompetently run either.

tumblr took its name from being a service for "tumble logs," which isn't a proprietary concept or term

Ravenflight - you spent more time with it than I did.  I think all your comments echo my experience as well.  It does seem a bit better than when I first signed into it.  But this site seems to have mostly fixed itself again, so I'll be spending more time here than there.  But I may go there a bit more often than I was.

Mastrsteven - Yes, I much prefer this site over newTumbl as well. Not sure it seems to have "mostly fixed itself" yet, but at least for now it's possible to a) see and b) post stuff again, which I guess is progress. Chat though still doesn't work, and that for me is an essential drawback.

There's another thread here which celebrates newTumbl. I must say I can't echo half the claims made, but there's no denying it doesn't have any of the technical problems this site keeps being beset by. But like you, I keep hoping bdsmlr will continue to sort themselves out so we may eventually return to something fully functional that is uncomplicated and offers a sense of community.

I love folks like @Johnny Angel - completely wrong but won't admit it and instead are willing to double down on their 'wrongness' in the face of all the facts. Best laugh I've had all week-end. Keep on being you, Johnny Angel , keep on being you.
